powerspeaK¹² covers the five key areas of language study: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture
powerspeaK¹² courses were designed from the start for kids, whose young minds are still open to learning a language as a native speaker. Beginning language learning while young is important because by the time we are adults, the language “compartments” in our brains have narrowed, diminishing our ability to comfortably learn a language like a native speaker. powerspeaK¹² taps into and capitalizes on the innate ability that kids possess to learn languages quickly and easily.
Developed specifically for kids means effective for kids
Our courses represent an ideal blend of language learning pedagogy and online learning. As students begin the course, they construct their own avatar which accumulates avatar “bucks” as they perform well on course tasks. Students can then use these bucks to purchase items (clothing, gadgets, scenery, etc.) at the “store.” Each week consists of an ongoing adventure story, a new vocabulary theme and grammar concept, numerous interactive games reinforcing vocabulary and grammar, reading and listening comprehension activities, speaking and writing activities, assessments, and culture activities.
- Scope and Sequence Standardization: The vocabulary and grammar topics for each level were carefully selected and organized in order to ensure maximum standardization. For example, the topics found in level 1 are topics typically found in any level 1 course across the nation. Scope and sequence documentation is available upon request.
- Calendar Format: Each course consists of 180-lesson days formatted in an intuitive calendar view which can be divided into two 90-day semesters.
- Language Skills: Target language grammar and vocabulary concepts are continually reinforced as students develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
